CFAAA - Hot Spot - Volume4 Issue 12

What is the Citizens Fire Academy?
The Citizens Fire Academy was created to help the citizens of Lexington better understand how the Lexington Fire Dept services their community. By helping to educate the citizens of Lexington in an interactive classroom and field setting we hope to create a better understanding and support system for our Firefighters.

Mission of the CFA
The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Division of Fire and Emergency Services has long recognized the importance of maintaining a close connection to the citizens we serve. As part of the department’s ongoing effort to strengthen community support and understanding, we are proud to offer our newest public education program, the “Citizen’s Fire Academy”.

The CFA is designed to increase understanding of fire and emergency medical operations and to promote citizen interaction with Lexington Fire Department firefighters and paramedics. We hope to enhance awareness of the department’s capabilities and limitations, explore the range of services we provide the community and to develop a cooperative relationship between firefighters and the citizens they serve.

The CFA will strive to have a positive effect on fire and life safety in Lexington. This can be accomplished by providing Academy graduates the knowledge and awareness to keep their home and workplace safe and to be able to respond in a positive manner when faced with a fire or medical emergency.

The CFA will provide an interactive forum for the exchange of information between firefighters and citizens with the purpose of providing a better understanding of how and why the department operates as it does.
