Firefighter Memorial

Not many people understand what giving the ultimate sacrifice means. We, the Lexington Fire Department, know exactly what this means. The Fraternal Order of Firefighter wanted to honor those who have done such, by erecting a Monument to the Fallen, to forever remember their contributions and ultimate sacrifice.

More than two years in the making, a rendering and proposal for the Monument to the Fallen was approved by the LFUCG Architecture Review Board on June 25, 2008. The Memorial to be constructed in Phoenix Park was designed to compliment the existing Police Department Memorial, while recognizing those organizations that build, support and encourage Lexington Firefighters.

James Bean of Bean Stone Inc. and MD2 Landscape Architects has been selected as the designer and General Contractor for the Monument. Work will commence on the Monument once the Committee has raised the appropriate amount of monies to cover its expense and maintenance.

Built of polished granite, the Monument will include a perpetual flame at its peak as a constant reminder of those who have given their lives in the line of duty. In addition, the Fraternal Order of Firefighters, Lexington Fire Department, Lexington Fellowship of Christian Firefighters and the IAFF Local 526 will be represented on each side of the memorial.

Your help is needed to support the fundraising efforts for the construction of the Lexington Fraternal Order of Firefighters, Monument to the Fallen, to be placed in Phoenix Park in Lexington. The purchase of an inscribed brick at the base of the Monument presents a once in a lifetime opportunity to honor the memory of those Lexington firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty, while at the same time honoring those active duty and/or retired firefighters.

The base of the monument will utilize custom commemorative bricks to create the Firefighter Maltese Cross which is significant to all Firefighters as a symbol of bravery, honor, and courage. There are only 462 bricks to be sold! Bricks can be purchased for $250.00 with proceeds being used for the construction of the Monument to the Fallen in Phoenix Park.

Each brick is 4” x 8” and can be purchased to memorialize a firefighter who gave his/her life in the line of duty. Bricks may also be purchased in memory or in honor of an active duty or retired firefighter in recognition of their service to the Lexington community.

The Lexington Fraternal Order of Firefighters is a 501 c 3, not for profit, organization and as such contributions are considered charitable tax deductions.
